Skunks love flowers in New Haven, Connecticut

In the cartoons Pepe LePew is a skunk who sometimes loves flowers and is always trying to present them to the woman of his dreams, a much harassed black and white cat. I always thought that was a joke until one started digging up my flower beds. Then I just wanted to know how to get rid of skunks so I can get back to smelling roses instead of something quite different.

I wouldn't have guessed the digging to be a skunk, but my neighbors saw the animal in action one night. I think he was digging for grubs or worms, which these animals apparently love, and they happened to be in my flower bed. Bad luck for me. I am not sure where the animal is living, but I need it to find a different place to eat out. Just from having the animal around skunk odor is starting to linger around my house. I don't smell it all the time, but it is enough that I can guess what the future might bring.

I usually leave upstairs windows open a bit in the summer to let in cool air. What will happen if it actually sprays right by my front door? How will I ever get the smell out of my home?

Did you know that there is no repellent for skunks? I guess it should have been obvious that nothing would repel an animal that can repel almost anything, but I was just certain that if I looked long and hard enough I would find something, but it just doesn't exist. The only way to get rid of skunks is to trap them and take them away.

The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection recommends that citizens use the services of wildlife control operators who are trained specialists in wild animal control. If I really want to get rid of skunks that is the best way to go.
